The last moon cycle we focused on gratitude which has felt incredibly powerful. We engaged in conversations of gratitude and set our attention on what we felt thankful for. Truly, it was a balm to this time of hypervigilance. On countless occasions I found myself reading adrienne maree browne’s ‘a blessing’.

While reciting different lines of this poem, it dawned on me that the blessings were mainly collective. It is so clear that we are most thankful for aspects of life that are communal, that are shared.

Gratitude re-centers where energy flows. It illuminates what  to pay attention to. It supports a path forward.

Oftentimes as we start a new calendar year, we get signals around adding more or doing something different for our future. If possible, this is not a time to have a big life shift. Take it slow. Mindfully connect with yourself to notice what/where/who you want your attention to be on. We are on the cusp of the shortest day. The longest night. We don’t always have the bandwidth to make the biggest changes. It’s ok to keep it chill.

So as we embrace today’s new moon, and honor this season, it is best for us to keep it simple. For the next moon cycle, we are going to Be Intentional. It feels obvious. But with these short, cold days, it’s vital to be really grounded and reflective. Being intentional allows us to share our energy directly to the people, including ourselves. Being intentional supports our visions and resourcing them with our mindful attention. Being intentional gives us guideposts in a world that feels uncertain and overwhelming.

As we move into a month of being intentional with our thoughts, words, and actions, may we be guided by our blessings/what we are grateful for. Perhaps the list below, the final lines of ‘a blessing’ by adrienne maree brown, give you an idea of what a communal blessing could be.

The final lines of ‘a blessing’ by adrienne maree brown:

a blessing on your community deepening

a blessing on your pods and mycelium

a blessing on your seed banks

a blessing on the land you love

a blessing on the truths you teach

a blessing on the books you save

a blessing on the truths you tell

a blessing on our dream of democracy

only realized through our everyday bodies

a blessing on the people

who were only given the earth
